Only in August, Vietnam's total exports of seafood products reached $405 million USD
The above information is from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Currently, seafood accounts for 37% of the total seafood export value of the country but recorded in August this year, seafood exports grew rapidly by 80%. The reason is that at the same time last year, export processing enterprises had to reduce their capacity or stop working to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic.
In the total seafood export value of Vietnam, other marine fish accounted for 48%; tuna accounted for 26%; squid, and octopus accounted for 7%; crabs, and other crustaceans accounted for 5%; Bivalvia accounted for 4% and the rest are other molluscs.
In the first eight months of 2022, exports of seafood products increased, while other molluscs exports decreased by 20%. The strongest growth was in tuna exports, 55%, reaching 730 million USD.
Processing and exporting exploited seafood is most concentrated in provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Long An, and so on.
The deputy sales department of a seafood company in Can Tho city said: "The economy has prospered after nearly a year of the COVID-19 epidemic, the chains that stopped working last year or operated very little are now running again, goods, workers, and import orders come continuously, so in August we can export a lot of seafood to foreign markets. The war in Russia is still there, and the cost of exploitation and transportation is still high. In general, exports have improved a lot compared to 2021".
