Vietnam Foodexpo was promoted at trade and investment promotion seminars in Germany and France

On October 18th 2016 in Frankfurt, the financial center of Germany and Europe, the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam collaborated with the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany to organize a promotion forum on trade and investment. The forum received the participation of more than 100 businesses, including members from Vietnam promotion delegation to Germany and France, German companies and Vietnamese companies who are operating in Germany.

On this occasion, VIETRADE introduced to German companies and Vietnamese companies located in Germany opportunities to expand business and investment ties with Vietnam through the Vietnam International Food Industry Exhibition (Vietnam Foodexpo) held in 2016 and 2017.

 Following the program in Germany, on October 20th 2016, VIETRADE collaborated with the Embassy of Vietnam to France, Business France, Paris city government and some other partners in France to organize a seminar on "Opportunity to strengthen trade and investment between Vietnam and France under the framework of Vietnam – EU FTA" in Paris, France.

The workshop attracted about 80 Vietnamese and French businesses including the trade promotion delegations from three provinces: Hung Yen, Nghe An, and Quang Binh.

Besides promoting national brands in many sectors and strong expertise of Vietnam, the seminar was an opportunity to introduce about Vietnam Foodexpo 2017 in order to attract French and European businesses to attend this large scale exhibition of Vietnam. At Vietnam Foodexpo 2017, France is invited as a country of honor.

 At the seminar, Mr. Ta Hoang Linh, Deputy Director General of VIETRADE introduced about the investment environment of Vietnam, which is considered to be attractive for foreign businesses.

Mr. Ta Hoang Linh said, until April 9th 2016, Vietnam was ranked 90 among 189 global economies via the survey “Ease of Business Environment” conducted by the World Bank (WB). The index increased 3 levels from 2015 and continued to increase in recent times, showed the efforts of Vietnamese government in improving the country’s business environment.

Mr. Ta Hoang Linh also said that in 2015, the total export turnover from Vietnam to France reached around EUR 2.63 billion with outstanding products such as: electronic devices and components, garments, footwear, furniture, coffee and seafood.

Meanwhile, French exports to Vietnam reached EUR 1.13 billion, including major items such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, machinery, milk and dairy products and cosmetics.

Mr. Philippe Yvergniaux, Head of International Cooperation Department of Business France said, “there are about 2,000 French companies exporting goods to Vietnam and 300 French companies have invested in Vietnam”.

Mr. Philippe Yvergniaux particularly emphasized the attractive investment environment in Vietnam such as political and social stability, high economic growth, improvement in legal environment, a young and dynamic population.

Mr. Philippe Yvergniaux also said that among exporters and businesses that are successful in Vietnam, there are not only large corporations such as Airbus, Peugeot, airports management group ADP, but also many medium-sized and small businesses. This shows that, in Vietnam, all businesses have the opportunity to be successful, notwithstanding business size or business categories: transportation, infrastructure, processing, agriculture, forestry or fishery...

Mr. Ygor Gibelind, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture of France, said that in 2015, the export of agricultural products in particular from France to Vietnam worth up to EUR 133 million.

To gain that success, French businesses have relied on the agreements in the field of agriculture signed at the State level, the bilateral cooperation programs between agencies, MOUs between companies which have aimed to creating a clear flow of information and helping businesses to build partnerships gradually.
