Seminar on "Value added by improving supply chain and food safety in Vietnam"

Vietnam's economy is growing strongly. The agricultural sector and the entire food system of Vietnam are at an important turning point. Despite significant achievements with abundant opportunities for future growth and being one of the leading exporters of agricultural products, Vietnam still gains low growth in terms of product quality. A study by the World Bank has shown that Vietnam has a lot of opportunities to improve its supply, quality and food safety, and increase its value for agricultural products to remain competitive in the international market.

This is the reason why Vietnam and the Netherlands are willing to work together to improve the value chain of agricultural products and food safety management. For decades, Dutch agriculture has succeeded in maintaining its leading position in the international market by continually investing in innovation of agri-food production and quality. The Netherlands is willing to share its experiences with Vietnam, jointly develop solutions for the value chain in Vietnam.

In fact, agriculture and water have always been important issues in the agenda of both Vietnam and the Netherlands. Two strategic cooperation agreements on agriculture and food safety, water and climate change have been implemented over the years. The two sides have implemented many successful projects, programs and visit delegations.

Vietnam and the Netherlands have just completed the development of pork production chain and training for Vietnamese experts. Many pork chains nationwide have been established with the support of the project. Next step, the two countries will jointly set up a national reference laboratory system as well as develop action plans to enhance food safety management. The Netherlands will share its experiences and discussions with Vietnamese stakeholders to develop a healthy food and agricultural system that both sides believe that it will provide the foundation for economic growth and poverty reduction. The system will be also expected to be environmentally friendly and good for human health.

As part of activities for country of honor at the Vietnam International Food Industry Exhibition 2018 (Vietnam Foodexpo 2018), the Ministry of Agriculture of the Netherlands in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture of Vietnam will chair the workshop "Value added by improving supply chain and food safety in Vietnam" from 9h30 - 11h30 on 15/11/2018. Accordingly, the Dutch food experts will share with Vietnamese partners their experiences in building and managing food safety systems.
