Reporter: It is known that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organizes a big pavilion to introduce potentials and strengths of Vietnam agriculture at Vietnam Foodexpo 2018. On this occasion, can you tell us about the achievements of Vietnam Agriculture recently?
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan: We have restructured, especially oriented production in line with markets in recent years. In that cycle, we have focused on improving the value chain of products, solving core problem is production associated with traceability and improving product quality. This is the first prerequisite because the input materials affect the output quality of products. We have focused on processing to improve product value.
For distribution, we have a fairly complete commercial infrastructure with nearly 900 grade 1 markets and a dense supermarket system of different sizes. For market organization, in the country, we have a connection with localities through the organization of agricultural festivals, fairs for high quality agricultural products, and regional product fairs associated with cultural and tourism promotion. For overseas markets, we have maintained traditional export markets such as China, the United States and the EU, and continued to promote niche markets like ASEAN.
Finally, to be on the dining tables of consumers, we have propagated to consumers about the use of clean, safe and traced agricultural products.
This Vietnam Foodexpo is helping businesses, associations, including state management agencies to jointly agree on the point of view that only when the quality of agricultural products is enhanced then the markets will show off critical voices in the consumption of products. There will be no story about the rescue of devaluated agricultural products. All are decided by the market. We have deeply integrated in the world economy and the Vietnam Foodexpo today is conveying that meaningful message.
Reporter: For more Vietnamese agricultural products exported to the world market, what do we need to do, sir?
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan: First, we need to focus on production, improve product quality and traceability. Secondly, we need to solve technical and trade barriers for agricultural exports. Agricultural products must meet the standards of import markets. Thirdly, it is necessary to concentrate on improving added value by processing, packaging and preservation.
Besides, we are standing in the door of the 4th agricultural revolution. Therefore, there should be policies to support the application of science and technology in agriculture, with synchronous policies of the government, ministries, departments and branches, especially localities and businesses for agricultural product development.
Reporter: Thank you!
